October is Car Care Month!
Is your vehicle ready for the change in temperatures and weather conditions? There are several areas of your vehicle that you should have checked to make sure they are working properly:
Battery: Cold weather is tough on batteries, so you should check the battery and charging system. Because batteries don’t always give warning signs before something goes wrong, you should replace batteries that are more than three years old.
Heaters, Defrosters, and Wiper Blades: Checking these systems are working properly is critical not only for interior comfort but also for safety reasons, such as defrosting. Wiper blades that are damaged or not working properly won't clean your windshield and need to be replaced. Don't forget to also check the fluid level in the windshield washer reservoir.
Tires: Check the tires, including the tire pressure and tread. If snow and ice prominent where you live, consider special tires designed to perform better during those types of conditions. Tire pressure should also be checked weekly as tires tend to lose pressure when it gets cooler outside.
Brakes: Have the brake system checked, including brake linings, rotors and drums as your properly working brake system will keep you safe when driving on icy or snow-covered roads.
